March is bringing a triple dose of The SPiTEFUL's live performances!
24th and 26th, we welcome W.A.K.O. to Rastilho Metal Records and will be assuming the first part of their "The Road of Awareness" album presentation gigs. They'll take place in Santiago Alquimista, in Lisbon and Alfa Bar in Maceira, Leiria, respectively. Our friends A Last Day On Earth are also part of this party, as they'll be promoting their prety recent "Between Mirrors and Portraits".
March 27th, we'll be welcoming the germans guys from Contradiction and their Live Devastation Tour. It'll be a really heavy late Sunday afternoon. We're hoping you can fight the hangover e show at the gig full of power, so that these gentlemen with their 20+ years career feel just like at home. Ovelha Negra, in Marinha Grande, at 18h00.

Heavy 2011
Hi, guys!
2011 is here and The SPiTEFUL predict this to be a really heavy and brutal year ! We'll continue to play live with our Persuasion Through Touring and have a few surprises coming later this year.

We'll start big in 2011, with another international gig. This January 15th we'll head to Burgos, in Spain, to headline Hangar Metal Fest. It'll be a party night with our spanish friends and we wanna make sure that it will be a while until nuestros hermanos forget what portuguese metal is about!!

Great metal parties were also the nights we shared the stage with our brothers in Mindlock. Persuading The Enemy was the name of the 3 gig mini-tour these two Rastilho Metal Records bands went on. Mindlock, who are currently promoting their excellent new album Enemy of Silence, joined forces with The SPiTEFUL, who continue to present their Persuasion Through Persistence and together we had some wild and unforgettable nights, with some minor setbacks on the way (that's the way it is) but always with a lot of energy and attitude. Together we tore down some stages (and livers) throughout this country and the audience had some crazy fun with us. With these guys it's a pleasure to be on the road and we're hoping to repeat the experience really soon. That's your opportunity to come out and jam with us!

As part of issue #4 of Eco's publication Perspectivas, "...For a Handful of Bands", in which several bands were invited to write a song based on their favorite movie, The Spiteful contributed with the song "The Job", honoring Quentin Tarantino's "Reservoir Dogs".
This song is now available on our Myspace page, so go check it out!

Anticipating the Persuasion Through Polska Tour, rocklife.pl interviewed The SPiTEFUL.
The original interview is available here, but for those of you (none but a few, for sure), whose polish is bit rusty, we leave you the english version.
1. How was the beginnig of your band. How did it all start?
João Mota: Basically, the band was started by 3 of us, simply because we knew each other from school and the neighbourhood, as we live in the same city (Leiria, center Portugal, halfway between Lisboa and Porto, not far from the coast). In the beginning it was something of a past-time, then it started growing - there were some lineup changes, 'till about 2 years ago when we came to our recent formation.
2. How is the path to release a CD in Portugal?
JM: A hard one! In fact, the name of the album reflects just that - "Persuasion Through Persistence" is the result of many years of struggle, persistence, and fundamentally being a bunch of annoying spiteful bastards who just didn't know how to quit! Nowadays things are starting to look better, with a lot of cool bands coming up (we have the privilige os being in the same label as what are undisputably some of the best metal acts in the country).
3. What is your musical inspiration?
JM: Old school thrash, the (old) new wave of swedish death metal, metalcore, new american metal and whatnot.. to name some names: lamb of god, slayer, sepultura, pantera, machine head, meshuggah, the haunted, hatesphere, chimaira, god forbid...
4. Can you tell me which kind of metal do you playing? Do you like it when someone segregates you to one of the genres?
JM: It's not a big deal for us, it's always fun to see what you're gonna be called next..! I've heard some call it crossover thrash metal, some call it metalcore, some death/thrash, and the most recent (and creative in my opinion): tech-core! I'd say we're a METAL band and that's about it.
5.This will be your first trip to Poland, what can we expect from these concerts?
JM: It's our first experience outside Portugal, and obviously we're stoked! We've heard a lot of great things about Polish metallists, so now we hope to see for ourselves what the audience is capable of (and if it decides it's worth it to come check out out).
6. What do you know about Poland?
JM: Personally I've been lucky enough to get to know this country for some time now, since I've been travelling to Poland on a regular basis (about once every two months average) since 2006. Also, I've had to do some extensive travelling while there, so I know a lot of cities pretty well: Warszawa, Kraków, Rszeszów, Lódz, Poznan, Wroclaw, Szczecin, Gdansk, Zakopane... You name it! And I gotta say it's always fun to come back.. Great food (can never go without some Zurek and some Pierogi), great drinks (my personal favourite is Wisniówka w/grapefruit juice, which I often bring back home, and has proven quite popular) and most of all, really fun people - it was surprising to see much more action in Polish clubs than Portuguese ones! So of course the rest of the band has become increasingly curious about the country, and my constant rants - now it's up to you to not let me down!!
7. Why did you choose our country for this tour?
JM: I think the previous answer pretty much explains it: my regular contact with the country, and the fact there seem to be a good deal of metal fans around created the conditions for it.
8. What do you know about polish heavy music? Do you know any polish bands?
JM: The international acts Behemoth, Vader, Decapitated of course need no introductions, and have earned a deserved place in metal's all-time hall of fame. Apart from them, the underground bands we've been listening to have been a very good surprise: Rotengeist, Lostbone or Terrordome, each in their own category of metal, reveal a booming scene with class-acts just waiting to get international recognition.
9. Some words for the polish fans of heavy music, why should they go to your concerts?
JM: If not for the fact there will be rare opportunities to experience a Portuguese underground thrash metal band locally, then they should come to get fuckin' WRECKED with us!

enemy of silence
One can expect a great metal night, June 18th, at Alfa Bar. From Algarve, south Portugal, comes Mindlock, fully armed to present their new album Enemy of Silence, released by Rastilho Metal Records. The SPiTEFUL and Switchtense join the party and welcome their new label mates. Rastilho's metal family keeps growing: in number, heavyness and quality.
It's gonna be a hard as hell party throughout the night: to meet again our friends in Switchtense - no matter how many times we share the stage with these guys is never too much - and have a chance to drink some cold ones with the Mindlock bunch. Last time we played together it was in a little club in Espinho, near Oporto, a long, long time ago (was it 2001? 2003?). Memories are like that... with time they become vague, blurry. Specially after an entire afternoon drinking beer in a seafront.

Reservoir SPiTEFUL
The SPiTEFUL, along with seven other bands from Leiria are contributing to ECO's (a local cultural association) project “...for a handful of bands”.
In response to ECO's invitation we composed a new song to be used as an alternative soundtrack for a film of our choice. We elected Reservoir Dogs. The Job is the name of that new song and its violent and heavy ambiance is supposed to serve as landscape to the heist scene on the film, which is never really revealed, although being the central element of all the action.
Keep checking our blog and myspace. Soon we'll be releasing this new song online. It's our latest work, so you'll be getting an hint on what The SPiTEFUL will be sounding like in the near future.

100% pure thrash metal
Bar Alfa welcomes back The SPiTEFUL for an old school portuguese Thrash night... Our comrades in Revolution Within are coming over to Leiria to introduce their debut album "Collision" and invited Pitch Black to complete what will surely be one hell of a night with no brick over brick remaining.
Our job will be to begin the hostilities and warm up the mosh pit. And we'll do it the only way we know: hard and heavy.

back in town
Hey there!
The SPiTEFUL are playing once again in their neighbourhood...
December 19th, @ C.R. Lis e Lena, Moinhos da Barosa, Leiria, we'll be sharing the stage with headliners A Last Day On Earth and Fried Chicken And Gasoline.
This is one of those venues that bring back a lot of memories from times long gone in Leiria's metal scene... So either if you're into deluding yourself that you're once again 16 or if you're really 16 and don't have the faintest idea of what I'm talking about, get your moshing shoes on and come by... We promise the music will be loud and the beer will be fresh.
